THE Ossory Agricultural Show had a successful day last Sunday in Coolfin in Rathdowney. Junior Minister Tom Hogan was on site to officially open what was the 115th Ossory Show which is still going strong.
In his speech he complimented the committee and volunteers and said that it is a remarkable testimony to the spirit of volunteerism that has seen generations of community members sustain this longstanding show and build it into one of the most significant and most successful in the region.
This is a unique show with something for all the family, including the finest livestock, horse classes, sheep, poultry, cooking, junior classes, entertainment, home produce, arts and crafts to name but a few.
Chairman Peter Ging thanked the Minister for visiting, and gave a special word of thanks to sponsors and exhibitors, the hard working committee and volunteers, neighbours in the area, commentary, security, music, media, red cross, Gardaí, nurses, vets, stewards, judges, Michael Hughes and everyone who helped with the show.
The rain stayed away for the entire show adding to the wide variety of events on the field, especially the mighty tractor pull, the sheaf throwing, archery, stilt walker Noelle Powell, the dog show, little Miss Ossory, most suitably dressed boy, and most suitably dressed lady and gentleman.
