Congratulations to Bernard Weldon who completed his third Dublin City Marathon in October and this year he ran for the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice who provides respite and palliative care services to children living with a life-limiting condition.
He raised €835.00 and he would like to thank all who gave generously for this very worthy cause.

For the Christmas holiday period the library will close at 1pm on Saturday December 21 and will re-open at 1pm on Tuesday December 31. Portarlington Library would like to wish all our patrons a merry Christmas and a happy New Year in 2014, where we look forward to a new phase of the library’s development in the town.
It was with deep sadness that the people of Portarlington heard of the death of Liam Fallon formerly of 42, St Michael’s Park who died in Bermingham on November 30. Liam was a son of the late Johnny and Lizzie Fallon. Liam will be sadly missed by his wife Marion (nee Maher) daughter of the late Paddy and Kitty Maher Bracklone St. Also his sons Trevor, Vernon and Griffin, his daughter Jessica and his loving grandchildren. Liam came from a large family, his brothers Sean, Paddy, Tommy, Georgie, Paul, Brendan and Kevin and his sisters Margaret, Patricia, Bridget, May and Martina. His extended family and friends. Liam will be remembered along with his brothers for their great talent at basketball in the town. Funeral took place in Bermingham on Monday December 9.

Booking is now available for the annual Courtwood GAA club weekend away which takes place this year on the second weekend of May.
This year’s destination is Killarney, Co Kerry and accommodation will be in the 4 star Killarney Plaza Hotel and Spa. Tour coach will leave Ballybrittas at 10.30am sharp on Friday May 9.
The package includes two nights’ B&B, a four course evening meal from the a la carte menu in one of the hotel’s three restaurants plus three days coach hire. Also included in the trip will be a trip to Dingle on the Saturday. The total cost of this package is €175.
The trip is limited to 50 persons and names are now being taken. A non-refundable deposit of €50 per person is payable by February 14 with a second instalment of €50 payable by Friday March 28. The balance can be paid on the weekend of the trip.

The adjourned AGM of Courtwood GAA club will be held this Wednesday December 18 at 8pm sharp. All are welcome.
The annual St Stephen’s Day charity game in Courtwood GAA Club will feature the Laois/Courtwood over 25 selection against a Laois/Courtwood under 25 selection.
There will also be a few guest appearances from neighbouring clubs with a sprinkling of current and former county players also expected to line out. A large sum was raised for charity last year, weather permitting. It is hoped that this year’s game will be every bit as successful and no doubt entertaining. All are welcome along to Courtwood GAA grounds from 11.30am onwards.
Ossory Cycling Club
OCC is a newly formed cycling club in Laois. We are now into our third year as a club. We cater for both leisure and the more competitive cyclist. Our aim is to promote cycling in Laois and surrounding areas. We currently have cyclist from both Tipperary and Kilkenny.
