Comhaltas celebrated a wonderful achievement of 25 years of traditional music classes recently in The Gandon Inn. Present and past members and committee, county board members and members of other branches in the county attended. Recipients of the Irish medal awards were Mary T Culleton, Agnes Conroy and Mary B Culliton who have all actively promoted Irish in the town. There was much music, song, dance and poetry enjoyed. DVDs of the night are available, €5 each, information at the classes. Some people were interested in the older DVDs which were shown on the night. Further information also available at the classes. There is no class tonight as we are now on holiday.

Following our ‘music and mince pies’ party in the MDA on Wednesday morning December 11, our annual Christmas dinner dance was held on Friday evening December 13 in Garryhinch Golf Club.  Many thanks to the committee for organising these two great sessions of music dancing and fun. The fortnightly group meetings in the MDA will resume at 10.30am on Wednesday January 8. We wish all our members a very Happy Christmas.

You can give the cert. to a friend instead of buying a gift for them. The certs are similar to the gifts system operated by many Third World charities.

There was much regret at the death of Margaret (Peggy) Droney neé Brennan of 50 Ashgrove on Friday December 7. Peggy was a kindly and friendly person, held in high regard by all who knew her and she will be sadly missed. Remains reposed at her home until removal on Saturday evening to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon on Sunday with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Peggy’s daughter Breda, family, relatives and friends.

Late Paddy delaney

There was great sadness at the death of Paddy Delaney, Patrick Street, who died peacefully at home last Wednesday evening December 11, surrounded by his loving wife Anne and children Marian, Annette, Michael, Pauline and Lisa. A retired cattle dealer, he was held in high regard, affectionately known as ‘Big Paddy’. Remains reposed in his home on Thursday evening. Removal was on Friday morning to St Joseph’s Church for Requiem mass at 12 noon with burial after in St Joseph’s Cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Paddy’s family, relatives and friends.
