The parish lotto with a jackpot of €12,050 was not won on December 09. Winners of the small draw were €30 Mairead Woods, €25 Margaret and Aoife Hanlon and €20 P Phelan. The lotto of the second Monday in January 2014 will be held in Castle Arms Hotel with a possible Jackpot of €12,350. To win all you have to do is buy a ticket and pick the right numbers, a lovely cash bonus for someone coming up into the New Year. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot. The annual general meeting of the Harps GAA club will take place on Friday January 3 in Cullohill community center at 8.30 sharp, all players’ members and other parish organizations welcome to attend.


The Harps Juvenile Club are holding a Kiddies disco/i presentation night in the Castle Arms on Saturday December 21 at 7.30. Admission free, all children welcome. Music by DJ Sheppo.

Ossory Cycling Club

OCC is a newly formed cycling club in Laois; we are now into our Third year as a club. We carter for both Leisure and the more competitive Cyclist. Our aim is to promote cycling in Laois and surrounding areas. we currently have cyclist from both Tipperary and Kilkenny. We have come quite a long way since we started up. There has being two Leisure cycle events and one cycling Ireland road held in Rathdowney and our club has also being taking part in an inter Club Cycling Competition for the last two years. if you are interested in joining our club feel free to join us on Sunday Mornings from the Square Rathdowney starting at 10am sharp. Come out this St Stephens Day and join us for the Durrow Development Forum Annual Walk along The Leafy Loop. Meet in The Castle Arms Hotel after 10 30am to register and the walk will commence the walk at 11am. The walk is approx. 4 hours long with a shorter alternative available. In O’ Connells Pub Cullohill on Saturday 28th December in association with The Parents Council. Tickets are available from members of the Parents Council, O’Connell’s Pub and Paschal Bergin’s Shop Cullohill. Music on the night by Alan Doran, Door prize and raffle with great prizes, a great night is assured!


The Christmas Lights were turned on Friday, 6th December, to celebrate the start of the Christmas month, everybody joined with Durrow Development Forum and Durrow Community Council at 7pm beside the Crib at the school gates for the countdown. The Third Laois Durrow Scouts performed during the Carol service. Donation boxes for the Christmas Lights are currently in all local shops. Please support by donating any loose change you may have, Thank You! The light make Durrow look very festive and the addition of extra lights throughout the town is welcomed.
