The annual 25 card game in aid of Multiple Sclerosis will take place on Thursday March 6 in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm. This worthy cause can be supported by coming along on the night, buying a ticket, giving a donation or sponsoring a raffle prize. Tickets at €10 will be on sale for this event.


The Joseph Thompson Memorial Billiards Tournament will be starting soon. This annual tournament commemorates the late Joseph Thompson, Borris in Ossory, who was a well-known billiard player. Each year it attracts top class competitors from all over Ireland and is rated as one of the best billiard competitions in the country. Anyone wishing to take part should contact Joe 086-8421598.

The Cavanagh Cup Perpetual Billiards Tournament will also start in the O’Brien Hall soon. This competition is confined to paid up members of the club. Anyone interested in taking part should put their name on the sheet hanging in the hall.


Borris-in-Ossory ICA guild ran a six week course of armchair Pilates in St Canice’s Hall before Christmas with Julie Maguire, which proved to be very successful. It is hoped to start a further six week course of armchair Pilates on March 12. Exercises which are not too intensive or strenuous. Non-members welcome. hurling & Camógie

St Brigids Camogie club and Rathdowney/Errill GAA will host Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday March 1 in Templemore Arms. Doors will open at 7.30 and the first dance will commence at 8pm sharp. Tickets still available and will be available on the night at €20 each. Alot of hard work has gone into the organising for this event from both committees and dancers so support would be very much appreciated. There will be a raffle on the night, tickets are €5 each which includes your programme. So come along and see your favourite couple dance.

The Women’s Walkers Group registration night is on this Wednesday February 26 at 8.30pm in the Fás Office. Registration fee is €18 for walker/jogger/runner. Registration forms will be available on the night.

Fianna Fail

The Fianna Fáil party will officially launch the 2014 local election campaign for the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick area on Friday March 7 in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow.

The function starts at 9pm. All friends and supporters are invited to attend.

Five candidates have been selected to contest the elections which will be held on May 23. They are Michael G Phelan, Sheamus McDonald. Ger Phelan, Joe Digan and Paddy Bracken.
