The people of Portlaoise are being urged to give their views on the future of the town centre and Main Street. Completed questionnaires, which are carried in this week’s Leinster Express can be dropped into the Downtown Portlaoise offic c/o Laois Tourism, on Lyster Square. The survey can also be filled in online www.surveymonkey.com/s/PortlaoiseSurvey.

Parish Novena

The Novena to our Lady of Perpetual Help runs each Wednesday at 7.30pm to April 16. The 9-week Novena in SS Peter and Paul’s Church continues this week when the speaker will be Mark Pollock a Northern Irish adventurer, athlete, rower, kayaker, author and international motivational who became the first blind man to reach the South Pole

Wax for Autism

Educate Together National School in Portlaoise is holding a charity waxing night in Barmondays on Saturday, March 1 next to raise fund for a unit that can help children with autism. School of Music

The Inaugural Music Festival on Saturday, March 15 open to all School of Music pupils and pupils receiving tuition at Portlaoise College through Music Generation.

The Heath NS quiz

Active Age

Singing rehearsals with Nuala Kelly for our forthcoming 10th Anniversary Concert which takes place on April 23 is open to each member. So come along each Wed. from 2 - 3pm sharp and ‘Air your vocals’! Our usual meeting will follow every Wednesday between 3-5 pm at the Parish Centre and will include a wide variety of activities and events to suit everbody. (The more you join in the fun the more you get out of it). Don’t forget the Indoor Bowls continue every Monday at St Mary’s Hall from 3 to 5 pm.

The AGM of the Laois branch of BirdWatch Ireland will be held on Tuesday evening 25 February at the Portlaoise Parish Centre at 7.30pm, followed at 8.30pm by a talk and demonstration by expert bird ringer and identifer, Declan Manley. The talk is free but contributions are welcome. Organised by The Irish Wildlife Trust Laois- Offaly Branch.


Condolences to the family of the late Luch Callanan (née Lalor) The Downs, and Ballyclider Portlaoise who died on February 16. Deeply regretted by her loving brothers Martin, and Dennis, relatives neighbours and a large circle of dear friends. Passed away peacefully at Ballard Lodge Nursing Home. Removal from the Chapel of Rest, Portlaoise Regional Hospital to SS Peter and Paul’s for Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
