The death occurred suddenly on Saturday February 15 at St James’ Hospital Dublin of Cecil Thompson of Parnell Street. Held in high regard by all who knew him, Cecil will be most sadly missed. Funeral Service was held on Thursday February 20 at 2pm in St Paul’s Church with burial afterwards to the adjoining cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Cecil’s wife Nellie, sons Desmond and John, daughter Sylvia, family, relatives and friends.


The death occurred on Monday February 17 at the Beacon Hospital Dublin of Patrick McEvoy of Patrick Street. Paddy was predeceased by his wife Vena, son John and grandson Michael Daire. Remains reposed at Quinn’s Funeral Home Glasthule until removal to St Joseph’s church on Thursday morning. Requiem mass was concelebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to his sons and daughters Mary, Larry, Liz, Fr PJ, Rovena, Jass and Grace, family, relatives and friends.

Fianna fáil launch

Fianna Fáil will officially launch the 2014 local election campaign for the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick area on Friday March 7 in the Castle Arms Hotel Durrow.The function starts @ 9pm all friends and supporters are invited to attend. Five candidates Michael G Phelan, Sheamus McDonald. Ger Phelan, Joe Digan and Paddy Bracken have been selected to contest the elections which will be held on May 23.
