The death took place on of April 27 at her residence of Mrs Catherine (Cathy) Doheny (née Dowling), St. Canice’s Terrace, Borris-in-Ossory, Laois. Her remains reposed at her home until removal on Wednesday morning to St. Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory for Funeral Mass followed by burial in Killasmeestia Cemetery. Cathy is deeply regretted by her loving husband Joe, sons Kieran, Sean, Vincent and Finbarr, daughters Bridget, Elizabeth and Mona, brothers, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. May She Rest In Peace


The death took place on Saturday April 26 at the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore of Mrs Mary (May) Daly (née Grenham), Westfield, Castletown, Laois.

Her remains reposed at her daughter Geraldine’s residence, Westfield, Castletown until removal on Monday evening to St. Edmund’s Church Castletown. Following Funeral Mass on Tuesday April 29 burial took place immediately afterwards in Churchtown Cemetery. The late Mrs Daly is deeply regretted by her loving husband Peter, children Geraldine, Padraig, Desmond, Donal, Gerty and Martina, sister Betty (Fallon), sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. She was mother of Mr Des Daly, Brooklawn, Borris-in-Ossory and sincere sympathy is extended to Des, Eileen, Aisling and Desmond on her loss. May she rest in peace.


The next meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will take place on Wednesday May 7 at 8pm. The course of armchair-based Pilates has just ended and was a great success. Thanks is extended to Julie Maguire, the course facilitator.


Laois Federation ICA Choir and pupils from Killadooley NS are holding an Inter-Generational Concert in Killasmeestia Church on Wednesday, May 21 at 7.30pm with refreshments afterwards in the Community Centre. Musical Director Nuala Kelly works as a Choral facilitator with both groups so they share a common repertoire which they will perform together at this special event for Bealtaine. Sympathy is extended to Mrs Rose Kealy, Sentry Hill, Borris in Ossory on the death of her brother, the late Tom Doherty, Raheny, Dublin and formely Kilkee, Clare. He died on April 25 peacefully at Beaumont Hospital and his Funeral Mass took place on Tuesday April 29 in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Foxfield/Kilbarrack followed by burial in Fingal Cemetery. The late Tom is deeply regretted by his wife Kathleen, children Kieran, Maria, Eugene and Linda, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, his extended family and friends.


Sympathy is extended to Eugene and Angela Dollard on the death of Angela’s mother the late Mrs Josie Scully (née Ryan), Tinderry, Knock Hill, Roscrea, Tipperary. Her remains were removed to Knock Church on Tuesday evening April 29 and following Funeral Mass on Wednesday her burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.


The annual memorial card game in honour of the late Micheal Dooley will take place on Thursday night May 15 at 9pm. Micheal was Treasurer of the club for many years and was responsible for starting the Progressive 25 Drive game in the club. It was originally planned to hold this game on Thursday April 24 but due to unforeseen circumstances it had to be postponed. The committee apologies for any inconvenience caused. It is hoped to have a good turnout for the game.


Country Markets take place in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory each Saturday morning from 10am to 1pm. All are welcome. It is the ideal place to purchase home baking, vegetables, produce, fresh eggs etc.
