The Social Services Bingo resumed last Wednesday and will continue every Wednesday @ 8.30pm in the Social Services Centre. Looking forward to see you in 2015.

Friday Cuppa

Portarlington Social Services started their Social event last Friday in their Centre, Link Rd. This will take place each Friday from 12pm to 3pm. You can contact the Centre any morning from 9am to 12pm @ 057-8623461. Also Ann Dunne (Secretary) @ 087-4116101.

Social Services AGM

The 44th AGM of Portarlington Social Services/Meals on Wheels took place on Friday January 30th. Last year the Centre cooked & delivered 4,874 meals. The Committee thank everyone for their continued support. From everyone who supports them Financially, to all the wonderful volunteers who help keep this wonderful Service going. Coffee Morning

Portarlington Coder Dojo aCoffee morning in aid of Lea Castle Conservation Project on next Saturday February 14 at 11am in the French Quarter, French Church St. As part of the “Social Good” Portarlington Coder Dojo would like to support the community of Portarlington in conserving Lea Castle. Come along and hear some more about the Project, see early copies of the Conservation Report and view some of the photographs and Aerial photography shot out there in 2014. Killenard Musical

Students from Scoil Naomh Eoin, Killenard are performing “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” in the school PE Hall this February. If any people from the local area would like to attend, a number of tickets are available for the matinee performance on Wednesday February 11 at 12 Noon. Tickets available from the school reception from 9.30am to 3pm daily. Tickets cost €5 each & are limited for the night shows on Monday to Thursday, February 9 to 12 at 8pm. Sold on a first come, first served basis.

It was with deep Sadness that the town heard on Thursday February 5 of the passing of one of our older Gentlemen Paddy (Pilot) Maher Gracefield. Paddy was predeceased by his baby daughter Geraldine. He will be sadly missed by his loving & devoted wife Frances, sons John, Padraig & Fintan, his daughters Maria & Colette, grandchildren, his extended family & many friends. Especially his friends in Gracefield GAA Club where he was their Life President. Requiem Mass took place in St. Michael’s Church on Saturday February 7, with burial after in St. Michael’s Cemetery. He will be always remembered for his kindness to families as our Undertaker where he always was so kind to all bereaved family. He has passed this on to his sons who now take care of people in their sad time. May Paddy now rest in Peace.


Condolences to the family of Maureen (Mo) Bracken Glasnevin Dublin & formerly Closelands Killenard who passed away on February 2. Maureen was predeceased by her parents Mark & Nellie Bracken of Closelands. Mo will be sadly missed by her many friends in Saint Claire’s Nursing Home Ballygall Road East. Requiem Mass took place in Our Mother of Divine Grace Church, Glasnevin, with burial after in St. John’s Cemetery Killenard. May Mo now rest in Peace.

Courtwood GAA

The Courtwood GAA Presentation Dinner Dance takes place on Friday March 6 in the Heritage Hotel, Killenard. This promises to be a great night of celebration and without doubt the social event of the year. Tickets priced at €40 each can be obtained from any of the committee members. Membership-Courtwood GAA club membership for the year 2015 is now open. The rates are; Adult (player)- €30, Adult (non-player)- €20, Family- €35, Student/Under 18- €5, OAP- €10. Please contact Treasurer Damien Behan on 085- 7881916 to renew your membership or join the club. Booking is now available for the annual Courtwood GAA club weekend away. This year’s destination is Sligo town and accommodation will be in the 4* Glasshouse Hotel in the heart of the town. Tour coach will leave Ballybrittas at 10.30 a.m. sharp on Friday May 8. The package includes two nights B&B, a four course evening meal from the a la Carte menu in the Hotel’s restaurant plus three days coach hire. Also included in the trip will be a daytrip on the Saturday. The total cost of this package is €175. The trip is limited to 50 persons and names are now being taken. A non-refundable deposit of €20 per person is payable by February 28 to secure your place with a second instalment of €30 payable by March 17.
