Following last year’s success in the All-Island Pride of Place competition, Abbeyleix has been selected by Co-operation Ireland as one of four enteries to represent Ireland in an international competition entitled Livecom which is to showcase liveable and sustainable communities in the world.


Tidy Towns judging will take place over the June bank holiday. We appeal to all residents to play their part in keeping the town tidy. We appreciate that committees are not for everyone but what a difference a little help can make to assist the work of tidy towns. Keep your house or business clean. A recent meeting of the Laois Comunity Forum brought to the attention of the members that bogus salesmen posing as Saor View Aerial installers were offering to install aerials for a fee of €250. Be warned there is no such thing as a Saor View Aeriel. Owners of old televisions will require a box to receive the satellite signal which can be purchased from a reputable dealer for about €50.
