THE children of Portarlington BNS have been practicing very hard over the last few months on their bi-annual musical. This year the school is performing the ever popular ‘Wizard of Oz’.
The main cast have been rehearsing since before Christmas under the guidance of teachers Maria Cosgrove and Paul McKeon. All other pupils are involved in the show also, performing songs and in supporting roles. Boys from 6th class are doing all the back stage work and front of house.
“As usual the whole school are 100% behind the project, there’s a great buzz around the school,” commented principal Pat Galvin. “The classic songs can be heard as you stroll through the school corridors and the boys are busy learning their choreographed moves in the school hall, it’s just great.”
The matinees of the show were performed on Monday and Tuesday to full houses from local schools in the area. The show will be taking to the stage again on Thursday and Friday in the local GAA centre at 7.30pm. Tickets are for sale in the school and on the door on the nights and are priced at €7. All are welcome to attend.
