The Toastmasters annual Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest took place on Monday night last.
Chairing the competition on the night was Meree O’Sullivan, who ensured that the night was a great success. Contestants for the Humorous Speech Competition were Bryan Holland, Mark Bastow and Ann Duncan. Bryan entertained the audience with tales of fatherhood and some of the hair raising moments he has enjoyed so far.
Mark Bastow advised people to pay attention to detail and avoid the hilarious situation he found himself in when he kindly offered to assist a neighbour and nearly found himself on the wrong side of the law. Ann Duncan regaled us with the incredible story of her Pup in a cup! Her little dog Roxy, sadly went missing some time ago and incredibly was found months later in Lemington Spa in England. Truly amazing.
In a very close contest the winners emerged as Mark Bastow and Ann Duncan and they will represent the Club in the Area Finals next month. The Table Topics Contest followed and rising to the challenge were Cora Cahill, Kevin Langan and Donal Cahill. Their task was to speak for two minutes on a topic which was presented to them at that moment. All three spoke eloquently on the topic of rags to riches and the winners on the night were Cora Cahill and Donal Cahill, no relation. Judges of the competition were Mary Heaney, Rose Williams and Ann Marie Mahon . They wished the winners the best of luck in the next round.
The next meeting of Toastmasters takes place on Monday, October 8 in the Killeshin Hotel at 8pm.Guests attend their first two meetings free.
