Congratulations to Borris in Ossory Tidy Towns on winning 1st prize in the Laois Community Litter competition for the fourth time. Well done to all the volunteers who put so much time and effort into making sure that Borris in Ossory remains litter free.

Congratulations also to Killasmeestia Tidy Towns on coming first in the Small Village Category and on being awarded the title of Overall Winner in the Laois Federation of Tidy Towns Competition 2013. Again this is due to a hardworking, dedicated committee who work tirelessly, week after week, improving the village and keeping it tidy.


Borris in Ossory Badminton club held its AGM on Wednesday night September 11. A new committee was elected. Chairperson - Willie Byrne 085 7834087, Secretary Darina O’Colman - 086 3618854 and Treasurer Damien Carroll - 087 2194703.

Special thanks is extended to the outgoing committee members as it was their commitment that got the club up and running.

Due to the fact that the club has just a single court it is necessary to limit the number of members. Existing members must re-register before September 25. New members may join from then. The registration fee is €25. The fee each night is €3.00. The club will resume on Wednesday September 18 from 7.30pm to 10.30pm and will continue every Monday and Wednesday night.


All Members please note that the Bridge Club will resume activities on Tuesday September 24 in the O’Brien Hall, Borris-in-Ossory at 7.30pm.

New members are very welcome.


Borris in Ossory Brownies, Ladybirds and Girl Guides will hold a Registration night in in St Canice’s Hall on Monday evening September 30 between 7pm and 8pm.


The hall in St. Joseph’s National School, Borris in Ossory is now available for renting by various groups for the coming months. Any group/individuals who wish to avail of the hall must have their own insurance.

The hall can be booked by ringing the School Secretary on 0505 41331.


Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place each Tuesday in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory from 10am to 3pm. Adoration takes place in Killasmeestia Church on Thursdays from 9.30am to 3pm and in Knockaroo Church on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and spend some time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.


Killasmeestia Tidy Towns Committee were thrilled last week to be the Overall Winner in the Laois Federation of Tidy Towns Competition 2013.

The week was the most suscessful in the short history of Killasmeestia Tidy Towns, with a gain of 10 points in the National Tidy Towns Competition on the Monday, to be followed on the Wednesday by winning the Small Village section in the Laois Federation of Tidy Towns Competition. This evening was capped off by being awarded the Overall Winners Cup for 2013.

The Committee wish to thank all who have given so freely of their time and energy to help achieve this wonderful suscess. They also wish to thanks the local community for their support on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

The village is looking beautiful at the moment, and is a credit to all concerned.

It has been amazing to see how much pride the people of Killasmeestia, both far and near, have taken in this win.


There will be a talk workshop on training on Suicide Prevention on October 3 from 10am-1pm in St.Canice’s Hall Borris-in-Ossory. All are welcome.


Social Dancing with Maureen Culleton will take place on Thursday October 10 in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2pm-5pm. All are welcome.
