Best of luck to the Portlaoise senior footballers in the Leinster Senior Club Football final in Tullamore on Sunday, December 8. The club will need a big crowd of supporters to travel to the big game against St Vincents of Dublin. Throw-in provisionally fixed for 2pm.

Community Forum

Congrats to all the Portlaoise people and groups who were recognised for their voluntary work at the Laois Community Forum Community and Voluntary Awards which are supported by the Leinster Express.

Portlaoise Macra.

Thank you to everyone who supported Portlaoise Macra’s table quiz in The Rock Inn. The club had a busy weekend as the Public Speaking team competed in the All-Ireland semi-finals on Saturday night and also took part in the annual Macra soccer tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Cuisle Centre sale

Cuisle Cancer Support Centre Sale of Work/Craft Fair is on Friday, December 13 at 11am. Various stalls including home baking, hand made candles, toys, knitted and crochet garments plus many other wonderful items, a great place to get a bargain. Mulled Wine at reception. Sat 21; Final members Carols performance from 3pm - 4 pm at Tesco. This year during these difficult times we do ask for your generous support as all proceeds from our carol singing will be divided between three local charities. Portlaoise Pantomime’s Treasure Island runs from Saturday January 18 to Saturday January 25 next with matinees on January 18, 19 & 25 at 2.30pm (sharp). Nightly shows at 8pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre. Tickets from the Dunamaise.

To mark 16 days of Action on Violence against Women, the Laois Domestic Abuse Service is hosting a party to thank all its supporters. The event takes place on Friday, December 6 in the John Paul Room in Portlaoise’s Parish Centre from 3-4.30pm.

Late William Fitzpatrick

Condolences to the family of the late William (Bill) Fitzpatrick of Dysart, Portlaoise who died on Thursday, November 21. Bill (The Welder) was reposed at his nephew Jimmy Fitzpatricks residence at Dysart with removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise for Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in Ratheniska Cemetery. Survived by his sister Peg, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Late Nancy DUNNE

Condolences to the family of the late Nancy Dunne (née Dunne) Rockview Drive & formerly of Ballymacken and Ballydavis, Portlaoise who died on November 21. Beloved wife of the late Dan and much loved mother of Marie, Colm, Monica and Donnacha. Also deeply regretted by her extended family,relatives and friends. Late Mary Critchley

Condolences to the family of the late Mary (Masie) Critchley (née Tierney) of Highfield Meadows and Newpark, Portlaoise who died on November 23 at the Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Mary (Maisie), predeceased by her husband Jack, daughter Breda, and son-in-law, John. Deeply regretted by her loving sons Tom, and John Joe, brother Christy, sisters Kitty, Patti, and Breda, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposing at the Chapel of Rest with removal from the hospital to SS Peter and Paul’s Church for Requiem mass followed by burial in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.
