Borris-in-Ossory ICA guild meeting took place in St Canice’s Hall on Wednesday February 5. Votes of sympathy were passed with the St Leger family on the death of the late Bob Stanley, Springhill & Joan Kelly, President of Knockaroo guild, on the death of her mother.

We will be entering a team in the Federation Table Quiz in Spink on Wednesday February 26. We also hope to start a course of armchair pilates in March. Non-members wishing to take part contact Helen Kavanagh 087-9285048 or Noreen Whelan 086-2367511.

Guest speaker at the meeting was Orla Doyle from Team Hope who travelled to Romania before Christmas to distribute gift filled shoe boxes to children in need. She thanked our members and their friends who donated 150 shoe boxes last November. Competition: 1st Nuala Costello, 2nd Helen Kavanagh, 3rd Mary Teehan. Raffle winner was Teresa Lalor. Next meeting Wednesday March 5.


The annual Senior Citizens Party will take place on Sunday February 23 in the PE Hall at St Joseph’s NS at 12.30pm. Lunch at 1pm, followed by music & dance. All Senior Citizens invited.

Sympathy is extended to the relatives of the late Kathleen (Kay) Butler, Elm Lawn, Portlaoise, & formerly Graigueavallagh, Errill who died unexpectedly at her residence on Saturday February 1. Her Funeral Mass took place in the Church of Our Lady Queen of The Universe, Errill on Monday February 3 followed by burial in Rathdowney Local cemetery. The late Kay is deeply regretted by her sisters Joan (Graham) & Brid (Davin), nieces, nephews, kind neighbours, relatives & friends, especially Hugo & Maura. She was sister of the late Mary Houlihan, Garron, Ballybrophy who died only a year ago. Condolences to all Mary’s family on the death of their aunt Kay.
