Meals on Wheels
The first meals were cooked in our fabulous new kitchen on Tuesday June 11. Our thanks to Laois Partnership for providing the money towards the cost of the extension. Tommy Dunne building contractor and his staff for the major work. Thanks to Alan Mitchell for accommodating us since last October. Thanks to our ladies who cook the meals for coping with the move. To our wonderful voluntary delivery people who give their time to deliver meals. Thanks to our wonderful committee who give so much of their time to keep the centre running for the last 40 years.
This summer Port will be hosting its first Oyster Festival in aid of Portarlington Meals on Wheels, at the rear of Alan Mitchell’s on Crowe Lane on Saturday June 22 from 2pm to 5pm. For €7 you will get a delicious serving of oysters with a glass of complimentary wine.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped out in our 6K run and family fun day especially those that travelled long distances to compete. A lot of organisation was needed. It was great to see so many members from the O’Dempsey’s juvenile and senior clubs and St Conleth’s Club all working together. A huge thanks to all the stewards, waterboys, ladies who helped with registration and times and to everyone who provided sandwiches and cakes. Thank you to our kind neighbours on the route who supported the runners on the way and even hosed some of them down.

Pride of Place
There was a great turn out at the public meeting for Portarlington Pride of Place on last Wednesday June 12 in the community centre. This is going to be a great occasion for Portarlington on Friday July 12.
Portarlington Fire Brigade will be checking fire hydrants in the area over the next couple of weeks. Check your tap water, and if water is discoloured, just run it for a few moments until it clears.
Congratulations to the following who were married recently. Clifford Nolan and Jenny Dempsey, both from St Joseph’s Tce. Also Neassa Garry, Bracklone St and Mark Ozenbrook from Mountrath. Best of luck to both couples on their future life together.

Deepest sympathy to the Kenny family on the death of Robert Kenny Annamoe who passed away at his home on Tuesday June 11. Robert will be sadly missed by his wife Helena, his daughters Venita, Elvina and Myrna, his extended family and many friends. Service took place at St Paul’s Church on Thursday June 13.
It was with great sadness that word spread of the death of Mary Duffy 21, Arlington Estate on Tuesday June 11. Mary had been ill for a long time. Deepest sympathy to her partner Joe, her brother Robbie, sister in law Anne, her niece and three nephews. Her extended family and many friends. Mary was well known for her many years of fundraising for the Hospice. Requiem mass took place on Thursday June 13, with burial after to St Michael’s Cemetery.
Condolences to the Walsh family Clonsast on the death of their mother Sarah (nee Mc Kay) who passed away on Wednesday June 12 at her residence. Sarah was predeceased by her husband Tommy. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Requiem mass took place on Friday June 14 at St Brochan’s Church Bracknagh, with burial after to St Brochan’s Cemetery.
