Dove House Garden Fete

On the grounds of Dove House Sensory Gardens we are holding our annual support group fete from 2.30pm on Sunday June 8. Great family day out, face paints, hot dog stall, bric-a-brac, homemade cakes, concrete products, wet sponge, teas, coffees, all the usual attractions will be there.


The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul are opening a shop on Main Street, Abbeyleix in June 2014. On week commencing June 2 we are accepting donations of clothing, footwear, homewares, books and toys in the shop from 10 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. These items will then be sold in the store, any profits raised in the shop will be spent on the society’s activities assisting individuals and families in the local community. We are also seeking volunteers to assist in the shop, people willing to volunteer can leave their details into the shop also during the week commencing June 2. Thanking everyone in advance for their continued support.


The Happy Heart Flag Day held in Abbeyleix on Friday 16th May raised €1,202.70. A very sincere thanks to all who contributed so generously, and to the collectors for their commitment to the cause and their generosity.


Abbeyleix Active Retirement have cancelled the tea dance arranged for Sunday June 1 as there are a number of events taking place over that bank holiday weekend. We have re-scheduled the dance for Sunday June 22 at the Manor Hotel from 2pm to 5pm. Music by Reuben James. Entry €10 which included afternoon tea and a free ticket for a door prize. Everybody welcome. We look forward to seeing you.

Volunteers needed

Laois Hospice Foundation is seeking volunteers to collect on National Sunflower Day on Friday June 6. Would you have an hour to space on that day that you could give to Laois Hospice Foundation to sell sunflowers at various outlets in Portlaoise? This is one of the main fundraisers organised by Laois Hospice Foundation and all monies collected locally are spent on hospice services in Laois. There is an urgent need for volunteers to sell sunflowers and if you have an hour to spare on June 6 contact Mary Delaney at 086 8157280. Late James Carroll

Condolences to the family of the late James (Jimmy) Carroll of The Ralish Cottages, Ballinakill Road, Abbeyleix and formerly of Tunduff, Abbeyleix and the Sue Ryder Centre, Portlaoise peacefully at Midlands Hospital, Portlaoise. Deeply regretted by his sons Robert and James, his sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Reposd at the Chapel of Rest, Portlaoise. Removal to the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix for requiem mass. Remains taken to Newlands Cross Cremotorium.

Shanahoe NS funday

A family funday is being held by the parents association in the grounds of Shanahoe NS on Saturday June 7 starting at 12noon, with bouncy castles, market and food stalls, novelty games, a Led Zeppelin tribute band and Irish dancing displays. In aid of the school, all welcome.


An ecumenical remembrance service will be held on the 29 June in Abbeyleix at 2pm in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church to remember all those who have died in farm accidents.
