There was a massive buzz in the area last week when over 100 boys and girls ranging from four to 14 years converged on O’Dempsey’s pitch for their annual skills week. They were greeted each morning by their mentors who put them through their paces and afterwards put their skills into practice by competing in a fun obstacle course that incorporated all they had learned. On Friday there were play offs for each skill, a football blitz and the highlight was the obstacle course competition where everyone cheered their team mates on. Once again it was a huge success and feedback was very positive. There were a lot of tired but happy children going home each afternoon. A huge thanks to all the mentors for their time and dedication to making this camp so successful, Ciaran, Conor, Aine, Caoimhe, Siobhan, John, Christopher, Liam, Daniel, Rachel, Cormac, Tara and Hatch also to the adults who volunteered their time, Tony (for setting up all the skills) Sinead, Derek, Jude, Alice, Catherine and to Martina, Brid and Ann who helped supervise the children during their break. Well done.

Clothing Collection

O’Dempseys are holding a funraiser clothing collection on Saturday August 23. Bags of clothing can be brought to O’Dempsey’s pitch from 9.30am to 11.30 am on the day of the collection or may be brought to training sessions in the week beginning August 18. Items accepted are clean re-wearable clothing, blankets, bed linen, curtains, towels, paired shoes, handbags, belts and soft toys are accepted (no other toys). Each 10kg bag donated will raise funds for the club. We would encourage everyone to try and donate as many bags as possible. Perhaps it’s time to rummage through your wardrobes and chest of drawers or maybe you have an attic full of clothes that will never be worn, now is your chance to do a big clear out. Remember each bag you bring is like a donation to the club. Any queries contact Catherine on 087 6306555 or any juvenile committee member.

On Sunday, August 31 all roads lead to Fisherstown Ballybrittas for the 100km cycle challenge, other events on the day include a 50km cycle and a short cycle for families and individuals, high nellies also welcome.
