Borris-in-Ossory Badminton Club will hold its AGM in St Joseph’s School Hall on Wednesday August 20 at 8pm. All are welcome to attend.


Social Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night August 15 with music by the Castle Trio. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.


Sympathy is extended to Mrs Eileen Abbott and family, Borris-in-Ossory on the tragic death of her nephew, the late Dermot Hogan, The Heath, Roscrea. The late Dermot died following an accident at his farm at Coolderry, near Roscrea on Thursday July 24. His funeral mass took place in St Ita’s Church, Coolderry on Sunday July 27 followed by burial in in Dungar Cemetary.

He is deeply regretted by his wife Marie, daughters Lisa, Rachel and Ciara, his father Kieran, mother Margaret, brothers Kevin and Eugene, sister in law, niece and nephews, relatives and friends. The late Mr Hogan was very involved in the GAA at local level and was manager of the Offaly U21 hurling team.


The annual mass at the Mass Pit in Ballyquaid will be celebrated on Friday August 15, the Feast of the Assumption at 6.45pm. This ancient and historic place of worship was restored nine years ago and the annual mass serves to remind us of the sacrifices and risks made by our ancestors in order to attend mass during penal times.

Anyone travelling on the Borris-in-Ossory ICA weekend trip to Devon and Cornwell who has not yet paid the full fare should please note that the remainder of the money must be paid to Pat Kelly, Main Street, Borris-in-Ossory without delay. The cost, which includes the luxury coach, ferry crossings, four nights dinner, bed and breakfast in the New Continental Hotel and the tour guide for the five days is €439.


The annual church gate collection in aid of Borris-in-Ossory Social Services will take place on Saturday and Sunday August 23 and 24. Proceeds from this collection go towards the services provided by the committee including laundry, meals on wheels, chiropody, monthly afternoon parties, annual senior citizens party, annual outing and hospital/nursing home visitations. It is hoped that the collection will be well supported.


Borris-in-Ossory Youth Club held a very successful barbecue at Drennans, Green Roads on Sunday August 4. Thanks to all who supported the bbq and everyone who helped to make it such a success, to the volunteers who cooked, to all the artists who gave their time freely, to the generous sponsors who donated spot prizes for the raffle and to the Drennan family for the use of their facilities. The youth club’s success is made possible by the support it gets from the community, so thank you to everyone.
