The death occurred on Wednesday August 6 of Jimmy O’Keeffe, 14 Woodview, Stradbally, peacefully at The Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Pre-deceased by his loving wife Kathleen, Jimmy will be sadly missed by all his family, daughter Ellen and her partner Martin, son Gavin, grandchild MJ, brothers Michael, Joe and Nicky, sisters Mary and Carmel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, nephews, nieces and his kind and wonderful neighbours and friends. His remains were reposing at The Presentation Chapel, Stradbally on Thursday and burial took place in Oakvale Cemetery following 11am requiem mass on Friday.

The committee would like to thank all who attended the recent photographic exhibition, particular thanks to Cllr Pascal McEvoy who launched the event. Just a reminder the museum and photo exhibits are open daily. Thanks to all who supported the recent draw sponsored by Glanbia. Community Games

This year Stradbally area has 35 competetors in the national finals. Week 1 team: Jenny O Connor Murphy, Ellen Miller, Orla Fennelly cross country; William Oxley, Heather Crean, Conor Corcoran, Sean Lewis, Conor Donnolan and Jordan Kelly table quiz; and David Donahoe swimming. The best of luck to all competing and well done to their parents, teachers, mentors, and trainers, for prepairing them so well. (See next week’s notes for the line up for weekend two)

A Night with the Stars - August 23, 8-10.30pm at Stradbally Library. Amateur astronomers from the Midlands Astronomy Club will present astronomy talks.

Railway trips - August 23-24, 1–4pm at Stradbally Hall.

Stradbally Market House - August 27, 7-8pm at Portlaoise Library, Lyster Sq. The overseeing architect Richard McLoughlin will present the history behind this unique building, and will discuss the particular challenges involved in its conservation.

Sunday August 31 all roads lead to Fisherstown, Ballybrittas for the running of the 100km cycle challenge. Others events include a 50km cycle and a short run for families and individuals, high nellies also welcome. Start and finish at Fishermans Inn. Refreshments served to all afterwards.
