Borris In Ossory Ladies Football Club are hosting St Brigids U14 Ladies Football team from Co. Antrim in the Feile on June 22 - 24. Borris In Ossory’s first game in the competition is against our visitors and this takes place in O’Keeffe Park on Friday at 2pm. We hope that people from the locality come to support our girls and to give a warm welcome to the Belfast girls and their supporters. On the following day our remaining matches will take place in Emo, and semi-finals in Timahoe.


A large number of parishioners from Borris in Ossory travelled to the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin last week. One group, accompanied by Rev Fr Jackie Robinson PP travelled by bus to attend the Congress on Tuesday and attended the celebration of the eucharist and were very impressed by the various workshops, exhibitions, prayer space, youth space etc. A further group travelled on Sunday to attend the closing mass in Croke Park and again were very impressed by this historic and impressive event in the calendar of the church.


Borris in Ossory cycling club held their Midlands Charity Cycle Tour on Saturday and Sunday 19 and 20 May, in aid of Spina Bifida and Pieta House Suicide Awareness (Roscrea Branch). The tour set off on the Saturday to Athlone taking in Mountrath, Portlaoise, Mountmellick and Tullamore and returned to Borris in Ossory on Sunday through Ferbane, Cloghan, Birr and Roscrea. The presentation of monies raised from the cycle to the charities Spina Bifida and Pieta House will take place in Kelly’s bar on Sunday June 24 at 8.30pm. All are welcome.


Anyone wishing to avail of the last few seats on Borris in Ossory ICA guild’s weekend away must give names and deposits of €100 to Lily Sheeran (0505 41308) without delay. The trip will take place from Sunday July 29 to Wednesday August 1 and the venue will be Belfast. Staying at a four star hotel, the trip will include a visit to the Titanic Exhibition and the sights of Belfast. There will also be a day spent touring the Antrim coast.


The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows: 1st Noel O’Sullivan and Tom Moore, 2nd Tom Quigley and Michael Muldowney, 3rd Michael Murphy and Jack Maher, Paddy Sheeran and Catherine Brennan, 10th game Lucy Bergin and Eugene Murphy, 20th game Tony O’Sullivan and Nuala Breslin. Raffle winners were Noel O’Sullivan, Tom Quigley and Sinead Ryan. The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.


The Laois Inter Community Litter Challenge will operate this year on a knockout basis with two towns, two large villages and two small villages being judged against each other. The town/village with the highest score will progress to the next round. Every town/village will be judged once, however half of them will be knocked out in the first round and only those who progress will be judged again. This will continue until the final winner is announced.

Everybody in Borris in Ossory and Killasmeestia is being asked to keep the place clean and tidy. The weekly sweep up has begun and takes place each Tuesday at 7pm. Dog owners are asked to clean up after their dogs.


Fr Robinson PP is organising a trip to the Holy Land for ten days in June next year. Parishioners who would like to save for this once in a life time trip may contact the credit union in Roscrea where special arrangements are being put in place to facilitate those wishing to save for the trip.


The cemetery mass in Killasmeestia Cemetery will take place on this Thursday June 21 at 7.30pm (weather permitting). Otherwise the mass will be celebrated in the church. A collection will be taken up with the proceeds going towards the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. Tea and refreshments will be served in the hall after the mass. The cemetery mass in Skeirke Cemetery will take place on Thursday June 28 at 7.30pm.


The cemetery mass and blessing of graves in Kyle Cemetery will take place on Thursday evening July 5 at 7.30pm.


A course of photography classes and art classes will take place in Ballaghmore Hall in the near future. Anyone interested should give their name to Phelans Postpoint, Ballaghmore, phone 0505 41161.


The annual road run will take place in Ballaghmore on Friday July 1 starting at 12pm from Kyle GAA clubhouse. They are hoping to make this event a regular date on the calendar and are encouraging everyone to get involved, runners, walkers, cyclists etc. There are trophies in each category and registration is €10. All monies raised is for the upkeep of the pitch in Ballaghmore and this in turn benefits all the juvenile teams from the surrounding parishes that can avail of the facilities. Most importantly, you get to see the sights of Ballaghmore in all its glory on the day {weather permitting}. Looking forward to seeing you all on July 1.
