St Patrick’s Day
Route and time change for this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Portlaoise. This year’s event gets underway at 12.30pm at County Hall turning right onto James Fintan Lalor Avenue to the Parish Church and then back up Main St to the Top Square. Schools, clubs, community groups and local associations are urged to get involved by contacting Ger Whelan 087 253 0124. The committee meets on Monday at 6.15pm in Egan’s Pub on Main St.

The new building for Maryborough National School, Summerhill, Portlaoise, to be opened on Friday, March 14 by the Bishop of Cashel and Ossory, the Right Reverend Michael Burrows. Service first at 11am in St Peter’s Church, followed by refreshments at the school. All past pupils welcome.
The offical opening of Gaelscoil Phortlaoise takes place at 10 am this Thursday, March 13 at the new campus in Summerhill. The school was founded in 1998 with just 12 pupils. It now has 249 13 teachers.

Argos Portlaoise thank customers who gave generously as part of a store collection to help The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and support people living with dementia in Laois. A total of €415 was raised in Portlaoise.
