Portarlington GAA is proud to present ‘Stars in your Eyes’ in the Heritage, Killenard on Sunday June 1 and the organising sub committee under the leadership of Joe O Dwyer promises a great night. The committee of Mairead Murphy, Adrainne McCarthy, Janet Bennett and Niall Slevin have worked hard to make nothing is left to chance on the night. We have 13 performers on the night and they are as follows: Noel McMahon, Jason Floody, Melody, Aiesha Donagher, Catherine MItchell, Louise McEvoy, Margaret Connolly, Grace Floody and Stephanie Lewis,Peter McEvoy, Johnny Dunne, Mairead Murphy, Ashling O Neill and The Port senior footballers’ boy band’ of Chris Booth, Jason Moore, Eddie Weldon and Cathal Ryan.


The Portarlington Lions Club in association with the Festival Francais de Portarlington committee proposes to hold a competition to elect an honorary mayor/mayoress of the greater Portarlington area. All clubs and associations who would like to nominate a candidate can email portarlingtonlionsclub@hotmail.com before May 26. Entry fee is €100.

Summer Camp

St Conleth’s

St Conleths U8 U10 U12 U14 training on Saturdays in O’ Dempsey’s at 10am. U16 training on Tuesday in O’ Dempsey’s at 6pm. Minor and senior training Friday night’s in O’ Dempsey’s at 8pm sharp and Sundays at 8.30am. Gaelic for mothers and other’s on Sundays at 6.30pm in O’ Dempsey’s. Tennis Club

Sign up for our summer activities program and receive free club membership for a full year. Membership includes a key fob which gives 24/7 access to the courts all year. Total cost for 8 weeks of tennis activities, Monday to Friday, 2.30 to 5.30 in July and August is €50. Contact Nuala087 1231135 to register your child.

Deepest sympathy to the Horan and Leavy families on the recent death of Bridie Horan (nee Leavy) St Brigid’s Sq and formerly St Michael’s Park who passed away suddenly on Monday May 12. Bridie was predeceased by her loving husband Paddy a number of years ago, also by her parents Jack and Bridget Leavy and her brother Pat. Bridie will be sadly missed by her daughter Patricia (Chambers), her sons Ger and Phillip, her grandchildren Stephanie, Aimee, Niall, Stephen, Stefan and Becky. Son in law Mick, daughters in law Jodi and Anne. Her sister Nell (England), brother’s Jackie, Edward and Keith, her extended family and friends. Requiem mass took place in St Michael’s Church on Wednesday May 14 with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Bridie’s gentle soul rest in peace.


Deepest sympathy to the Wyse family Canal Road on the death of their baby Finian Nikolaus Wyse who was laid to rest in St Michael’s Cemetery on Saturday May 10.

Drama Society

The Portarlington Drama Society return to the Dunamaise Arts Centre, on Thursday and Friday May 29 & 30 at 8pm, with their production of Comparisons, a play by Henry Madden and directed by Siobhan Byron McEvoy. This play is set in Dublin in the 1960s and is based on neighbouring families in working class Dublin. Little Black Dress Night

Ladies get out those little black dresses as this annual event will be happening on Friday May 30, and this year it will be upstairs in the Anvil Inn with dancing and music 8 till late.
