Fr Sean Hyland formerly of Bracklone St Portarlington was ordained on July 13 in St Michaels Church, Portarlington. Portarlington GAA was proud to host the public celebration which was held after his 1st Mass when in excess of 300 friends and parishioners were plied with a multitude of cakes and sandwiches, washed down by a veritable ocean of tea. The extended Unity Committee who had worked hard to decorate the hall both inside and out for the night kept the tea and fine fare flowing into the early hours. We wish Fr Sean the very best in his new Parish.
Port Juniors play their Championship 2nd round against Stradbally in Annanough on Thursday July 31 at 7.45pm. Port Seniors beat Emo in round 11 of the league in a thrilling fixture. On the Charity side Port played their Offaly neighbours Gracefield in a Challenge Match organised by Gracefield with all proceeds being given to the Bubbles for Ciarán Fund. Port fielded a somewhat composite team who were defeated comprehensively on the day by a fast moving slick Gracefield team, but on the day the final score was not the important figure but the amount raised through contributions on the gate, food etc. Port Juniors lost out to Courtwood in round 1 of the Championship.
