The Parish lotto jackpot is now heading for 16,850 euro and it would be lovely jackpot to win. On July 21 the jackpot was 16,550 and it was not won, small winners were 30 euro Punters Club c/o Dec’s Bar 25 euro James Joyce, and 20 euro Vincent O’Brien. The lotto of August Bank Holiday Weekend will be on Tuesday night August 5 and will be held in Peadar’s Bar with possible jackpot of 16,850 euro. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot


Durrow /Cullohill Parish Anglers held a Pike fishing competition Con Geoghegan Memorial Trophy. Winner was Tommy Coffey, 2nd Seamus Coffey and 3rd Michael Walsh.

Laois Festival of walks is coming to an end this week and many thanks to the hundreds of people who took part in these walks through our lovely county. On Wednesday night July 31 night there is a 12 km walk through the leafy loop in Durrow which brings you through Woodland, Farmland and River banks with a delightful rich abundance of flora and fauna. This is a grade A walk which is strenuous and you need the proper walking footwear and plenty of fluids to drink. The walk will take up to two and a half hours to complete and will finish in the Scarecrow Village. Assembly point is Castle Arms Hotel and will start at 7 pm.


Durrow Saturday market is open every Saturday from 9 am to 12.30pm in the Computer Centre beside the RC Church on the Kilkenny Rd. Potato’s and Fresh Vegetables are available, to book your favorites please ring Marie on (087) 7742506. Home Baking from Bernie Brennan is also now available with a selection of fresh breads, scones, tarts and cakes. You can also book cakes for parties etc. with Bernie. Cemetery Mass

The annual Cemetery Mass for Durrow will be held on Tuesday night August 05 at 7.30 pm in the Church of the Holy Trinity. Everyone who has relatives in the graveyard is asked to make sure their plot is clean. Many thanks to those who look after the graveyard so well, it is a credit.

Open Air Dancing

Dance on an open air platform on Sunday August 3 from 3 pm to 6 pm with music by Danny Webster. Come and enjoy an afternoon with the residents of Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Crosspatrick, Johnstown. Raffle and bucket collection with all proceeds going to The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland


The Senior Competition for the Joe Brophy Memorial Cup and the Juvenile Competition for the Durrow Development Forum Trophy will once again take place this year. The juvenile age is up to 16 years old for the competition. Entry fees are senior €5 and Juvenile €3. Print Size for both competitions: Standard size to Maximum 10”X 8”. Prints can be mounted but not necessary. Limit of photographs per entry: 4. all entries to be presented in an envelope with name of entrant, address and telephone number written on envelope. Entry Dates: Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July from 2.30pm to 4.30pm both days at Durrow Community Centre. Winning prints will be announced and Prizes will be awarded at 5pm on Saturday 2nd August.
