SPECIAL OLYMPICS CLUB
Laois Laochra Special Olympics Club meets every Monday in St Mary’s Hall from 7 to 8 pm. Training for all ages involves a warm up, games and a match - generally football or shinty. There is also the opportunity to attend different sporting events, participate in the Athlete Leadership Programme and enjoy a Summer Outing, Christmas Party and Roll and Bowl Trips. New members are always welcome.
The heath quiz
The Annual Table Quiz in aid of Scoil an Fhraoich Mhoir, The Heath will be held on Friday February 27 at 9pm in Treacy’s Pub and Restaurant. €40 per table of 4. Tickets are available from the Parents Council by contacting Louise on 087-9177472 or pay at door on the night. All are welcome for a fun filled night, with raffle and finger food.

This year’s Portlaoise Parish Annual Novena will follow a more intense experience over nine days beginning on Saturday, February 28 concluding on Sunday March 8. The Novena will be celebrated at following Masses every day. Guest Celebrants and Speakers will lead each day of Novena. The guest speaker at masses on Saturday, Feb 28 is Robert Parker. Fr John Dunphy, Graiguecullen will celebrate the 10am Novena Mass.
Guide Dog Thanks
The Laois branch of Guide Dogs would like to thank the people of Portlaoise and Laois for helping to raise €20,919 last year. St Patrick’s Day
Volunteers and committee members urgently needed for the 2015 St Patrick’s Day parade. Committee meetings will be every Wednesday at 6:15pm in DeBruns pub - subject to change depending on availability of committee members. Hoping to have the parade same time as last year at 12:30pm right after the Streets of Portlaoise 5K. The next meeting of the Laois branch of BirdWatch Ireland will be held on Tuesday, February 24, when Ciara Flynn of the National Parks and Wildlife Service will talk about Wildlife and the NPWS in Kildare, Laois and Offaly at the Portlaoise Parish Centre at 8pm. Open to all with wildlife interest. Entry is free, contributions welcome.
On Sunday 8 March there will be a training day for volunteers who have time to devote to the Countryside Bird and Irish Wetland Bird Surveys.

Laois Cycling & Touring Club is looking for new members. The club meets each Sunday in the car park of the Maldron Hotel in Portlaoise at 8:45 am. There are routes to suit all levels of cyclists. Beginners will be accompanied by one or more of our experienced club members. All cyclists should have a road worthy bike and a helmet We also encourage cyclists to have a drink them. Late Pat kelly
Condolences to the family of late Pat Kelly, Clontarf Dublin and The Heath who died suddenly on Monday, February 16. Beloved husband and best friend of Eileen and loving father of Caroline and the late Rachel and Jackie. Sadly missed by his wife extended family, relatives and many friends. Reposed was at Staffords funeral home, Maypark, Malahide Rd. Funeral Mass at St Gabriel’s Church, Dollymount followed by burial in Fingal Cemetery.
Late Christina O’Connell
Condolences to the family of the late Christina O’Connell (née Morris) of Alcantra, Kilminchy, who died peacefully at Portlaoise hospital on Monday, February 16 . Predeceased by her daughter Edel (Duignan) brothers Pat and Willie, sisters Mary Joe and Sr Anne CP. Beloved wife of Jerry and much loved mother of daughters, Jacinta (Quinn), Anne (Cooney), Linda (Rigney), sons Ronan, Niall and Diarmuid. Deeply regretted by her family relatives and friends.
Reposing was at the Chapel of Rest at The Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Removal to SS Peter & Paul’s Church. Requiem Mass burial afterwards in SS Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
