FAMILY FUN DAY
Durrow/Cullohill Parish Anglers in conjunction with the Woodenbridge Paddlers will hold a family fun day on Sunday May 27 at the Old Bridge Durrow at 2pm. Members will exhibit fly tying and casting techniques along with canoe and mini regatta. Bucket collection on day in aid of Durrow community services. STRICTLY COME DANCING
Durrow Development Forum has changed the date for Strictly Come Dancing to the end of the year after dancers have requested a bit more time to train for the performances of their lifetime. But watch this space as there is a lot of talent in Durrow and you wouldn’t want to miss a great night of fun.
PRIDE OF PLACE
The Pride of Place competition will be judged at the end of June. Pride of place is ten years old this year and they have included a new category to celebrate this birthday, the previous winner category. Durrow won the pride of place in 2006 and has been entered in this new category. Durrow has every chance of winning it with all the effort that has been made in the last few years. A bit more work has to be done showcasing how the people take pride in living in Durrow. We are asking everyone to give a hand within their possibilities to make this happen.
Thursday night clean up is continuing every week and this week we would like to thank the Cub Scouts who did great work cleaning the church grounds, boys’ school area and Erkindale Drive with us. The Cub Scouts have pledged to help us every week as part of their badge programme. We invite everybody to come along on Thursday night. Litter pickers and refuse sacks are supplied by the Tidy Towns committee on the night. We also ask for residents and businesses to clean outside their premises and put out flowers etc. we thank you for your cooperation.
Rehearsals for the new youth choir have commenced on Tuesday evenings in the Computer Centre Durrow at 4pm for age 7 to 12 year olds and 4.45 pm for 13 to 18 years. A wide range of music styles are covered from pop to classical. Anyone who would like their child to participate should contact Vicky Murphy on 086 1000230.
There was no winner of jackpot. Small draw winners were €30 Alan Dwyer, €25 Terence Jacob, €20 Helen Woods. Next draw in Lennon’s Bar for a possible €7,750. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.
There will be a Woodlands Eco walk on Friday night May 18 in Capponellan Woods. Assembly will be in the cark park in the wood at 7pm. Don’t forget to bring your camera as you don’t know who or what you will meet. Dress suitable for the weather on the night.
There was a trout fishing competition for the Durrow Anglers Cup on Sunday May 13. winner was Tommy Coffey, 2nd Seanie Delehunty, 3rd Philip Kearney. U-14 1st Daniel Brophy, 2nd Patrick O’Regan and 3rd Michael Monahan jnr. Next competition will be on June 17 for the Pat Gaughan Memorial Cup and it will be trout fishing competition.
The committee, members and supporters of Durrow/Cullohill District Anglers wish Tommy Coffey and Ian Drennan all the best as they fish in the All-Ireland Pike Fishing final this weekend. Both fishermen qualified for the final by competing and winning in qualifiers held in the last year.
