A walk/hike will take place on Saturday July 28 on the Sliabh Bloom trail. Michael Dowling has very generously invited our Foroige group to participate. The walk will leave Shrahane at 2pm, Just bring a packed lunch. There will be a number of activities along the way. The afternoon is free of charge and will be very enjoyable. The Camross CES are holding a race night in the Camross Inn on Saturday night at 9.30, to enable Camross CES to carry on the work it is doing in the community i.e. the GAA field, the school/parish pitches, Camross/Kilanure churches, the hall, Coolrain village etc. Your support on Saturday night would be greatly appreciated.


The death tock place in The General Hospital Portlaoise of Mrs Joan Thompson Clonohill, relict of the late Richard (Dick).

Her remains reposed at her residence and were removed to St Fergals church Camross on Friday for requiem mass. Mass was celebrated by Very Rev. Fr John Lalor PP assisted by Very Rev. Fr Jackie Robinson PP Borris-in-Ossory, Very Rev. Fr John Brickly PP Nass and Fr Martin Delaney recently appointed PP Rathdowney. The lessons were read by her daughter Fiona and the reflection was read by her granddaughter Aisling.

Joan was a very gifted person, she had wonderful hands, patch-work, hand painting were child’s play to her. She also did all sorts of farm work, cooking and baking.

She is mourned by her daughters Barbara, Enda, Claire and Fiona grandaughters, sisters-in-law, Mary, Breda and Kay, sons-in-law, cousins and several friends and neighbours and great grandchildren.

The ICA formed a guard of honour on her arrival at the churchled by Laois federation president Vivien Rigley. Joan’s passing leaves a void in the parish. She was in her 92nd year and may she rest in Peace

The annual Ard Eireann Festival Walk will take place on Sunday, July 29. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come and we will meet at the Poet’s Cottage, Camross at 2pm. This ancient festival was revived by the Slieve Bloom Association last year after many years’ absence from the calendar of yearly events. There will be refreshments and entertainment after the walk, as well as the launch of the restored Glenkitt Well.
