Sunday next May 05 is May Sunday in Killeshin. The annual Holy Cross Sodality procession, first held in 1884, will leave from outside St Clare’s Church at 10.30am sharp to arrive at Holy Cross Church for 12 noon Mass which will be celebrated by Fr Con Maloney, Carlow College. All Sodality members are requested to walk in the procession with Sash’s, while non-members are very welcome to join in also.
This is the eighth year to run our Solemn Novena and will continue for another six consecutive nights. Guest speakers for Monday 06 May, Br Luke, Dominican Brother (Personal Testimony). The rosary is recited at 7.10pm and Mass begins at 7.30pm. Each night a special guest speaker will speak for about 15 to 20 minutes about their work and how their faith guides them. Our Novena draws inspiration from these speakers and it is also an opportunity for the whole community to come together and pray for one another. There are petition boxes in both churches and we invite people to place their prayer petitions, and each night at the novena a selection of these are read out.
There was no winner of the recent AFC lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 07, 09, 14 and 29. The four lucky dip winners were Michael Kavanagh, Helen Keogh, Nicola McGuill and Aisling Brett, each received €25. The seller’s prize of €25 was won by Brendan Fitzpatrick. The next jackpot stands at €9,200 and tickets can be purchased for €2 from any club member or in the local shop and public houses.
Killeshin FC is running a fundraiser on Saturday May 04 at their pitch in the Quakers field next to the new school. This world record breaking attempt at three legged racing is open to all age groups. Sponsorship cards are available from Denise McDonald at 0860767731. The start time for this event is 11.30am sharp and registration will start at 9am. There will be loads of activities to keep participants amused while waiting for the off time.
