SR ROSARII WALSH RIP
Borris in Ossory lost one of its oldest parishioners last week with the death of Sr Rosarii Walsh, Sisters of Mercy, Borris in Ossory and formerly of Riasc, Ballyferriter, Co. Kerry. Her death took place on Sunday April 21 at Brookhaven Nursing Home, Ballyragget, after a short illness. Her remains reposed at Guilfoyle’s Funeral Home, Castletown until removal on Tuesday evening to St. Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory. Following Requiem Mass on Wednesday morning burial took place in the new cemetery Borris in Ossory.
The next meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will take place in St Canice’s Hall on this Wednesday May 1 at 8pm. New members are always welcome. Nine members of the guild attended the Federation AGM in Camross on Wednesday April 24, which was addressed by the National President Liz Wall.
The Borris in Ossory Womens Walking Group held a successful mock wedding a few weeks ago in aid of Lupus Group Ireland, their chosen charity for this year’s Ladies Flora Mini Marathon in Dublin on Mon June 3. The mock wedding was held in Rosie O Gradys Pub in Borris in Ossory. It was a night of fun, Frolics and Twists. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. The walking group would like to thank all those involved in making the event possible. Thanks to John Gaffney, John Brophy, Midland Service Station, Kellys Spares, Ian Maher Rathdowney, Bobby Barry Coolderry and Clare Coast Hotels for their sponsorships. Winner of two nights away in the Clare Coast Hotels was Helen Moynan.There are a limited number of DVDs of the Mock Wedding for sale. All orders must be given and prepaid by Fri May 3 to Denise Origan (0876364648) or any committee member. The cost of the DVD is €10. The walking group will have sponsorship cards out in the coming weeks as they continue to raise much needed funds for Lupus Group Ireland. The results of the competition played on Tuesday April 23 were 1st Noreen Hanrahan and Pat Kelly, 2nd Teresa Butler and Irene Delaney,
3rd Anne Maher and Breda Sharpe. The competition for the President’s Prize was played on Tuesday April 9 and the winners were Agnes and Marie Geoghegan. All members please note that the end of season party and presentation of prizes will be held on Tuesday May 21 in St. Canice’s Hall.
PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE
The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st Peter Delaney and Michael Higgins, Joe Dooley and Jack Dooley, Jacob Fairbrother and Jack Maher, Noel O’Sullivan and Michael Fitzpatrick, Bridget Gleeson and Mary Jo Ryan, 10th game – Willie O’Reilly and Larry Dunne, 20th game – Billy Kirby and Tommy White. The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.
MEMORIAL CARD GAME
A Monster memorial card game in honour of the late Micheal Dooley has been arranged for Thursday night May 16. Micheal was Treasurer of the club for many years and was responsible for starting the Progressive 25 Drive game in the club. It will be a €10 game with a perpetual trophy for the winner.
Badminton continues every Wednesday and Sunday evening in the new school. Matches are now being played in the club tournament.
A Choir practice for Confirmation will take place in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory on Thursday night May 2 at 8pm. Members of the four choirs in the parish are invited to attend.
The committee of Killasmeestia Tidy Towns would like to express their deepest sympathy to committee members Paul and Judith Hogan and extended family on the death of Tom Hogan Jnr, Coolowley, Errill.
Three Ballaghmore ladies are taking part in the Womens Mini Marathon in aid of Aware. This is a very worthy charity and support would be greatly appreciated. Sponsorship cards are in Phelans Postpoint in Ballaghmore. The Mini Marathon will take place on the June Bank Holiday weekend.
TIR NA nOG PRESCHOOL
