This year Laois Hospice coffee morning takes place on Thursday September 19. Would you have an hour to spare on the morning or evening or arrange a coffee morning in your workplace? Laois Connects- Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying and young people is the name of an information and advice meeting facilitated by Mary McGrath, School Health Promotion officer, for parents of secondary school students which takes place at the Mountmellick Community School on Monday, September 30 7.30pm-9.30pm. Laois Connects - Ageing Well

Workshop exlporing the myths and challenges of ageing hosted by the Mountmellick active Retirment Association takes place on Wednesday, October 2 10.30am-1pm as part of Laois Connects week in the Macra Hall. Laois Connects - Dr Eddie Murphy talk

Developing your real self - top transformation tip is a motivational talk to be delivered by Dr Eddie Murphy, Clinical Psychologist with RTE and Leinster Express, takes place as part of Laois Connects at the Mountmellick Community Arts Centre on Thursday, October 3 from 8pm-9.30pm. The mobile blood clinic will attend at St Patrick’s BNS on Thursday September 19 from 5pm to 8.30pm.


Set dancing resumed on Monday September 16 at 8.30pm in Ballyfin community centre and continues each Monday night except bank holidays. Classes will be given. Contact Maureen on 087 6482038 for details.


SMA mass will be celebrated tonight, Tuesday September 17 at 8pm in the Macra hall.


Registrations are still being taken for beavers, cubs and scouts. All meetings are on Thursday nights. For children aged 6 years contact beaver leader Yvonne Keady at the Methodist hall from 7pm to 8pm. For age 9 years contact cub leader Edith Deffew at the Owenass hall from 7pm to 8.30pm. For age 12 years contact scout leader Winnie O’Reilly at the YM hall from 7pm to 8.30pm.


The group are holding their next disco in the Owenass Hall on Friday September 20 from 8pm to 10 pm which is strictly for 9 to 12 year olds. Admission is €5 which includes a drink and bag of crisps.


Panto time is approaching soon, registration for children interested in taking part in the Macra Panto will be held shortly, €10 once off fee required. More details to follow with the date of registration. Impromptu debating is taking place on Friday September 20 if interested contact the Macra number below. Badminton continues in the Macra Hall each Monday and

Rehearsals for Capers, a short variety show competition which involves singing, dancing, comedy and musicians will be taking place soon, an information night will be held on Friday September 27 for anybody interested in taking part. Comhaltas will perform traditional Irish music from 5pm to 6pm on Friday September 20 in the library to celebrate culture night. All are welcome.


The knitting circle meets every Tuesday in the library from 10.30am to noon. Bring along your needles and wool and join the group for a cuppa and a chat.


Paul Weerasekera, a Limerick based artist, is exhibiting his work in the library gallery until September 28. Titled ‘Paintings of Laois & Offaly’, it features acrylic on canvas scenes from both counties including Rosenallis, Shannon Harbour, Tullamore and Stradbally. Born in Sri Lanka, Paul trained as an architect in the UK and also studied art and design. He has lived in Ireland for 25 years and had numerous solo exhibitions. All are welcome along.


The club meets in the library on the first Tuesday of each month from 11am to noon. Please call in or phone the library if you wish to join.


Coaching of Gaelic football for girls and boys continues for u8, u10, u12 and u14 on Tuesdays and Thursdays now at the earlier time of 6.30pm. New players welcome.


A weekend of music, walking, sightseeing and other activities which are all optional is being organised on Inis Cléire (Cape Clear) from September 27 to 29. It is part of Bliain na Gaeilge and is an opportunity for a weekend away and at the same time to practice your Irish. To book lodgings phone 028 48968 and for the ferry 028 41923. Well done to the team from St Vincent’s Hospital who were the Division 1 winners of the Boccia Finals 2013, held recently in St. Mary’s Hall by Laois Sports Partnership.


This community based social event will take place on Saturday October 26 with all welcome to attend. Further details to follow.
