As Joe Duffy announced his retirement from RTÉ on Thursday to his thousands of listeners on Liveline, speculation has been rife as to who might replace him on the hugely popular radio show.
Speaking on Thursday's Liveline, the radio host said: "After 37 wonderful years here in RTÉ, and 27 years presenting Liveline, it has been an incredible honour and privilege to be part of a programme that relied entirely on trust: the trust of our listeners. People felt they could pick up the phone, ring Liveline, and share their lives, problems, stories sad, bad, sometimes mad and funny, their struggles, and their victories.
"I never took that for granted, not for a single minute. RTÉ has been a great place to work. Public service has always been at its heart. And now, after many happy years, I’ve decided the time has come to move on. I would like to thank you the listener for tuning in each and every day, it has been an honour to sit in this seat and hear your stories."

As Joe will present his last ever Liveline show on Friday, 27 June, RTÉ plans on finding his successor over the coming months with an announcement expected in the autumn.
Among the favourites so far are Katie Hannon, Miriam O'Callaghan and Jennifer Zamparelli. There are some other names worth mentioning in the race as well such as Tommy Tiernan, Lucy Kennedy and Westlife turned-radio-host Nicky Byrne.
There'll be plenty of eyes on who gets the big job over the coming months but we want to know who you would like to see replace Joe on the show?
