January candidates, from left, Mateusz Cwienk, Eoin Lowry and John Scully.
Our Sports Star of the Month poll for January is here at last, in association with Downey's Auto Stop, Portlaoise.
We have three nominees for January, find out more about each nominee below. Voting lines will remain open until 12.30pm on Tuesday, February 20. Best of luck to all candidates!
Mateusz Cwienk (Portlaoise AFC)
The Portlaoise AFC net-stopper was in excellent form in January, despite the weather playing havoc with the schedule. In Portlaoise's Lummy O'Reilly Cup game against Newtown Rangers, he saved two penalties in the shootout to help his side advance. He then followed that up with a superb performance against Templeogue, as Portlaoise continued their rise up the LSL Division 1A table.
John Scully (Portlaoise RFC)
It has been a tumultuous season for Portlaoise RFC firsts, but they recorded an impressive win in the opening round of the Towns Cup, with Scully scoring four tries against Navan, the first time a Portlaoise player has ever done that in the Towns Cup.
Eoin Lowry (Laois and UCD)
January saw Eoin Lowry produce some very impressive displays for county and college. He scored 0-5 for Laois in their O' Byrne Cup game against Westmeath, followed that up with 1-7 for UCD against Maynooth in the Sigerson Cup, and then added another 0-3 from play for Laois in their opening game in the NFL against Limerick.
