Both teams had already secured quarter-final places before Sunday’s final group game

Borris-Kilcotton ended their 2026 Laois Shopping Centre SHC group stage campaign with a two-point win over Rosenallis in Laois Hire O’Moore Park on Sunday afternoon.

The result of the game before this Round 5 contest effectively made this a dead rubber with Borris-Kilcotton and Rosenallis already safely through to a quarter-final in two weeks thanks to Abbeyleix’s surprise win over Rathdowney-Errill.

It took less than 20 seconds for the game’s first score, as Rosenallis’ Jimmy Hyland split the posts. Borris-Kilcotton’s first effort almost resulted in a goal, but Stephen Kelly denied Neil Foyle. The Borris-Kilcotton number 13 raised two white flags shortly after, both from frees. Rosenallis went ahead again thanks to Donnchadh Hartnett and Fiachra C Fennell with a point each.

The teams then traded six points. Jer Quinlan scored twice and a Foyle free for Borris-Kilcotton, while Jimmy Hyland scored twice and David Dooley added the other. The lead swapped hands again when Foyle (free) and Joe Campion put them ahead by a point. Rosenallis finished the half with four points unanswered, courtesy of Jack Friel, two Dooley frees and Charlie Friel. Rosenallis led 0-10 to 0-7 at half-time.

Quinlan got the second half underway with two more points before Dooley scored three points to push Rosenallis four ahead. Borris-Kilcotton replied with three points, Campion and two Foyle frees, and the margin was back to a single point again. Paddy Keating’s only score of the game was met with scores from Dean Carey and Quinlan.

The sides were level approaching the final seven minutes and Rosenallis went ahead again thanks to C Fennell and Dooley. Foyle was unerring on the frees and added another to his name. Rosenallis’ final score came in the last minute of normal time through a Dooley free. Borris-Kilcotton kicked on in added time and scored four in a row to win by two. Campion and Quinlan scored either side of two Foyle frees.

Rosenallis will face Abbeyleix in the quarter-finals in two weeks, while Borris-Kilcotton will meet The Harps.
