Port opened the scoring with a try from prop Cian Farrell as their forwards made excellent use of their possession. Then, as the game started to take shape, the visitors found themselves with space to exploit and out half Ronan Coffey used his pace and step with devastating effectiveness as he wove his way through the defence and over the line. Christopher Whittle added the conversions on both occasions and Port led 14-0.

Cill Dara never dropped their heads and a series of missed tackles allowed them back into the game as their backs linked up well to score under the posts and at half time the score was 14-7.

In the second half Portarlington pressurised their hosts at every breakdown and when the outstanding Luc Culliton scored from full back to cap off a man of the match performance and Whittle again converted, Port again had the momentum. They showed a high level of fitness and concentration as they looked to put the match beyond Cill Dara and when Francis Donegan crashed over for a well deserved score, you got the sense that the result was inevitable. Cill Dara scored again in the last move of the match to leave the scores at 26-12 and both sides should be proud to have contributed to such an entertaining contest.

The final will be played next Sunday April 28 in Edenderry RFC. Full details will be posted on Facebook (Port RFC Mini Rugby)
