“Go Phone Free” is a voluntary initiative which invites Parents and Guardians to collectively agree, in respect of their children, to the following code: No smartphones while enrolled in primary school, no social media while enrolled in primary school and to respect the age rating on video games.

"We had a very positive afternoon in Killadooley NS," said Parents Association Chairperson Deirdre Delaney.

The children were all delighted to see their art work hanging on the walls and we had lots of parents and grandparents in to view their efforts."

Parents who attended the art exhibition commented that 'there are no negatives' to the Smartphone Free School.

"There is no negative here, the Smartphone Free School pact can only be a positive for all of us," one parent said.

"Signing up to the pact is a great idea, there is strength in numbers and if no child has a phone my child won't want one either," another expressed.

"It will help to have back up when we say no to a smartphone at home," another parent explained.

"We were delighted to be invited to join with Rathdowney, Errill & Borris in Ossory and begin our Smartphone Free Childhood campaign," Ms Delaney continued.

"The children made a great effort with their art exhibition and it really highlighted all that they love about being a child, from 'playing golf with grandad', 'walking my dog', 'having a few pucks', 'baking with mammy', having access to a smartphone doesn't need to be part of a child's life.

"If any other school would like to join our campaign please feel free to contact us," the Chairperson finished.
