More on the story below.

Organised by parish priest Fr Martin Delaney, longtime friend of Daniel and Majella O'Donnell, the O'Donnells returned to Rathdowney for a night of music and entertainment.

Hundreds packed into the church for the sold-out show on Sunday evening, which was beautifully lit with candles and stunning lights.

The Rathdowney church has always had beautiful decorations at Christmas time, and the large Christmas tree to the right of the altar made the evening feel truly festive.

The Rathdowney Parish Choir, led by Maureen Guilfoyle, opened the evening with three songs, before Daniel O'Donnell took to the stage to sing with them.

Mr O'Donnell has previously recorded a cover of Danny Haverty's 'Lovely Rathdowney' with the Rathdowney choir, and the crowds sang along as he sang his rendition last night.

The singer performed for almost two and a half hours, and had the crowd singing and swaying along. One concert attendee had travelled all the way from Wisconsin to see Mr O'Donnell perform live.

Having just returned from a US tour, Mr O'Donnell was happy to be home and singing in Rathdowney, County Laois.
