A Laois run that is a favourite for amateur athletes returned with an environmentally friendly twist on a chilly bright day last weekend.
After a two year absence, The Great Heath Run returned on January 15 to the quiet country roads around the Great Heath near Portlaoise.
Runners taking part in the 5K and 10K chip timed runs organised by The Heath GAA club didn't get a medal however.
This year, in a nod to the area's natural habitat, and to highlight the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, instead of providing a medal they all got to choose between bringing home a potted heather or having a heather planted in the club grounds.
