Over 70 enthusiastic students and teachers took part in a 10km Town Loop Cycle on Friday, May 19, led by a Garda escort.
The school held the event to promote and encourage cycling to school as an eco-friendly, healthy mode of transport.
The school’s location on the town's ring road means it has cycle lanes up to the school gates, and also has a spacious bike rack on site, which was at full capacity throughout Laois Bike Week.
To cap off the event, students returned to the school to enjoy some well-deserved refreshments. All participants were entered into a draw to win a brand new bike worth over €500 and the lucky winner was Thomas.
The Portlaoise College Bike Week event proved to be a remarkable success for everyone involved and the school would like to thank Laois County Council, Race Right Cycle and the Portlaoise Garda service for their support.
