PICTURES: Laois airplane flyover honours Col James Fitzmaurice's Bremen flight anniversary

Dignified wreath laying in the special Portlaoise garden named after historic Laois pilot

Limetree Airfield in Laois carried out an exciting small craft flyover of Portlaoise last Saturday April 12 to mark the 97th anniversary of the first transatlantic east to west flight on the Bremen by Portlaoise resident, Col James Fitzmaurice in 1928. The Col. James Fitzmaurice Commemorative Society with Laois County Council held a special wreath laying ceremony at Fitzmaurice Place. The Irish UN Veteran Association Post 27 members carried out a flag raising. Tap NEXT to view the photos by Alf Harvey.
