"We were absolutely thrilled today when our local firemen paid a surprise visit to the school! Not only did they stop by for a chat- they arrived in style, driving their big fire engine right into the carpark," the school revealed.
"From junior infants all the way up to sixth class, the children got to see what’s involved in being a firefighter, explore all the equipment they brought with them, and even take turns using the fire hose! The excitement was off the charts," they said.
"Some of our boys and girls looked like their hearts were about to burst with joy- dreams of becoming firefighters suddenly felt very real.
"One moment that touched us all was seeing one of our pupils beaming with pride as his dad, a firefighter in our town, stepped out of the engine. He was absolutely chuffed to see his father arrive at school in full gear!" the staff member said.
"A massive thank you to everyone at Mountrath Fire Station for making today unforgettable. The children were enthralled, the staff had a ball, and the whole school community felt the magic of your visit. You certainly made our day!" the school finished.
