PROPERTY: Piece of historic Portlaoise fort land up for sale

Prime Laois town site on sale for surprising low price

A rare chance to buy a piece of Portlaoise 16th century history has come on the commercial property market. A site including a stunning arched stone shed, hidden inside the Fort Protector thick stone walls, is on sale for €125,000.

Peavoy Auctioneers say the 0.11 acre town centre development site on Tower Hill has an overall floor area of 445 m².  They say it has commercial or residential options subject to planning permission. Laois County Council bought the site next door inside the fort from Portlaoise Parish some years ago, and are restoring it as a visitor attraction, adding an outdoor event space.
