PROPERTY WATCH: Huge period house for €220,000 in Laois Offaly town

A four bedroom period house in the heart of a large Laois Offaly town has come on the market for €220,000.

Portarlington is just a 40 minute train commute from Dublin, but the price of this potentially stunning family home is a fraction of the cost of much smaller properties in the capital.

More detail below photos.

The Georgian era house is on Main Street, near shops, the town park, leisure centre, community centre, bank and library.

It is well maintained but needs modernising says auctioneer Matt Dunne & Associates, who estimates it to have been built some 200 years ago.

However the house has huge potential, with the original front door fanlight, Georgian window shutters, staircase, timber floors, plaster coving and fireplaces still intact.

There is a big private back garden too with beautiful stone walls and outbuildings, accessed through the gateway.

The house has mains water, electricity, sewerage and oil fired central heating.

"A rare opportunity to acquire a large period property on Portarlingtons main street. The property is circa 200 years old and has been well maintained over the years, but does require some upgrading.

"Private rear yard and garden with access via car port. Accommodation comprises of living room, kitchen, hall, reception room, two bathrooms, four bedrooms."
