The aim of the event was to foster a sense of well-being and self-care. Participants took the opportunity to pamper themselves with various holistic treatments offered by the Institute's trainee beauty department, or even opt for a free hair appointment and consultation.
Not only that, but an array of workshops were given, focusing on physical and mental health.
Renowned Portlaoise boxing coach, Pat Ryan, who has mentored world athletes like Katie Taylor and TJ Doheny, delivered an inspiring talk. Drawing from his wealth of experience, Pat shared insights on teaching boxing to individuals with diverse backgrounds, including those facing challenges in both academic and personal spheres.
Dr Sandra Molloy, teacher at Portlaoise Institute with a PhD in Elite Performance, delved into the complex topic of Body Image. Her talk provided valuable perspectives on realistic body expectations for both males and females, aiming to promote a healthier understanding of self-image.
Niamh Whelan, the institute's Student Support Officer, offered a unique workshop on utilising painting, particularly watercolours, for mindfulness. Through hands-on demonstrations, participants learned how art can be a therapeutic tool for cultivating inner calm and peace.
Tara Vitality, owner of Vitality Temple, led a rejuvenating Yoga and Meditation class. Supported by LOETB Community Education, this session provided attendees with the opportunity to unwind, center themselves, and embrace holistic wellness practices.
The Portlaoise Institute student soccer team edged out the staff in a keenly contested battle which brought the curtain down on the busy Wellness Day.
Robust tackles were reportedly exchanged and goals were frequent in the less than ideal weather conditions. Referee Julia Mullally paid tribute to the sporting nature of both teams after the game, noting that the free count remained in single digits. Following the defeat, the determined staff unit vowed to turn over the result in a repeat fixture before the end of the year.

“Portlaoise Institute's Wellness Day was again a resounding success. There was a collaborative effort from both our dedicated staff and enthusiastic students that contributed to that success.
"It is through their teamwork and commitment that we were able to create an event that not only provided valuable insights and experiences but also fostered a sense of community and well-being within Portlaoise Institute," he said.
