Irish Olympic boxers Michael Conlon and Darren O’Neill are chomping at the bit for their entry onto the Olympic stage. The duo who are part of the six strong Irish boxing team were on hand to launch the ‘Boxing in the Community’ programme at the Aviva Stadium.
The new module will see children from over 55 schools in the Dublin area avail of the opportunity to experience a first class training facility and access to top level coaching at the Aviva Stadium. One of the new activities within the programme, designed specifically for children, is StartBox, a fun based, initially non-contact introductory boxing course which is aimed at encouraging those who may have little or no experience of the sport.
Next on the cards for Conlon is a round robin tournament in France which will pit him against three other qualified boxers to hone his skills.
