A Look at Laois, which was launched in 2022, is a two part documentary celebrating the rich heritage of traditional music, song, dance and language which makes up the cultural life of County Laois.
It recounts the history of the county and is illustrated by the stories of local happenings, local heroes, and local pioneering visionaries, all of whom have contributed to the landscape of Laois, a county full of historical importance, where arts and culture continue to evolve, welcoming visitors from near and far.
A Look at Laois was initiated by Laois Comhaltas with funding from Laois Partnership. The documentary is written, produced and directed by Laois man PJ Phelan.
The official launch took place on Thursday, December 1 in Bloom HQ, Mountrath, hosted by Laois Chamber Alliance and Laois Comhaltas.
The project is part of FleadhFest which Comhaltas says is an exciting initiative which has been undertaken by Comhaltas Units, in circumstances when normal Fleadh Cheoil activity was not possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"FleadhFest is the story of Comhaltas told from the point of view of each county and province - the story of the people, community and culture which sustains our traditions of music, song, dance, storytelling and language, ensuring it is a living tradition which can be passed on to future generations," says Comhaltas.
