Violent golf club attack on house and car in Portlaoise estate #watch

Gardaí were called out to an attack on a home in Portlaoise which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Residents were disturbed at about 12.30am when they heard what were described as 'popping' sounds outside their homes in Maryborough Village which is located off the Mountrath Road.

There were initial fears that gunshots were fired. However, when the neighbours looked out their window they saw a man with a baseball hat carrying what appeared to be a golf club.

During the incident all except the windscreen of a car were smashed. 

Several of the front windows of the house were also shattered. A number of windows in the front door were also broken.

Residents say the a young mother with and infant child have since left the house.

A number of residents in the estates were badly shaken by the incident.

A video taken for the Leinster Express reveals the extent of the damage.
