WATCH: Laois dad shocks daughter with surprise Ed Sheeran Elvis wedding duet

He has never sang in public

A Laois dad sprung a surprise over the weekend when he performed an Elvis duet with Simon Casey at his daugther's wedding in Clonaslee.

John Cusack has never sang in public but in the weeks before the wedding of his daughter Louise to her partner Padraig Byrne, he enlisted the help of the former You're A Star runner-up and prominent wedding singer.

With Simon and his piano-playing musical partner Paul Skelton from Tullamore, John embarked on seven weeks of rehearsals to perform during the ceremony in Clonaslee on Friday last, May 11.

They prepared a mash-up of Ed Sheeran's 'Perfect' and Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love With You,' and when John stood up behind Louise and John during Simon's opening lines of 'Perfect,' the whole congregation was in shock.

He then walked to the altar and performed the Elvis hit, much to the visible surprise of his daughter and her new husband. The fact that John had been able to keep the secret for so long clearly entertained the wedding guests.

Speaking awards, singer Simon Casey said, "John has never sang in public but after just seven weeks of rehearsals with myself and Paul, he nailed it."

John's 'stage' debut is said to have been the talk of the reception and truth be told, plenty more songs were shared much later in the night!
