WATCH: 'It's cruel on me and my mother' - Laois woman pleads with health Minister and Government

Abbeyleix woman Emma Fogarty is fronting a new campaign to persuade the Government to do more for people like her who have epidermolysis bullosa (EB) or "butterfly skin".

Emma is an ambassador for DEBRA Ireland which is asking the Government to prioritise EB care. In the video Emma, who has the support of Colin Farrell and Johnny Sexton, speaks about the care that families have had to deliver and the need for more help.

DEBRA says that by investing €810,000 in mental health support, outreach care, and home care for people living with EB, we can make an immediate, positive impact for the approximately 300 people living with EB in Ireland. Watch ABOVE or read more below.

"We are asking the Minister for Health to meet with us to learn how this small ask can have a big impact," they say.

They want people to send a message to Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly via X (formerly Twitter)

The message says that for less than the price of two coffees a day per person with EB, the Government can help the about 300 people in Ireland living with the condition in  Budget 2024.

They want to meet Minister Donnelly.

"With just two clicks, you can support our campaign by asking the Minister for Health to meet with us. Together we can shine a spotlight on the desperate struggle many people living with EB face to get care and support and showcase how such a small action can have a big impact," they say.

Debra Ireland say they are dedicated to transforming the lives of people living with EB, caring for someone with EB, or bereaved by EB, through care, research and advocacy.
