Mourners lined the streets of a Laois town over the weekend to pay their respects to a well-respected man who received a horse-drawn procession to his final resting place.
Michael "Mixie" McInerney of 10 Woodstock Lodge, Woodstock Street, Athy, Co. Kildare passed away peacefully at Naas General Hospital on February 4, 2024.
His RIP.ie death notice says he will be "deeply regretted by his son Michael, his daughter-in-law Heather, their children Kathleen, Jason, Paddy, James, Brendan, Elizabeth, Savanna, Anthony, grandson Michael and his wife Helen, their children Johnny, Josie and grandson Thomas, brother Terence, sisters Mary, Bridget and Helen, nieces, nephews, his great neighbours and his friends from far and wide".
He is predeceased by his wife Kathleen, brothers Jimmy, Paddy and Jack.
Mixie reposed at The Presentation Chapel, Stradbally on Thursday and Friday last before a requiem mass at Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally on Saturday morning.
He travelled to his final resting place in St. Michael's New Cemetery, Athy by horse-drawn procession through both towns.
Messages of sympathy and condolences for the McInerney family have been submitted to RIP.ie.
One mourner said: "Sincere sympathy to all of Mixie's Family on his passing. He was a great character as was his late wife Kathleen. He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed in Athy and surrounding areas. May he rest in peace."
Another stated, "Rest in Peace Mixie, you were a gentleman, may you get the best bed up in heaven."
"Sincere condolences to family & friends on the sad passing of a legend Mixie. May he rest in peace," another tribute read.
